Dr. Barry G. Blundell

barry-blundellProfessor Barry G. Blundell specializes in Advanced 3D Visualization and Interaction technology R+D. He earned his PhD in Physics from the University of Manchester, UK. He is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Physicist, Chartered Information Technology Professional and Fellow of the British Computer Society. Professor Blundell is an inspector for the British Accreditation Council (for which he undertakes work in relation to the accreditation of higher education institutions) and is also an inspector for the British Computer Society (for which he carries out accreditation in respect of programmes in computing and IT). He is currently writing a graduate teaching textbook, Ethical and Professional Issues in Computing and Technology Centred Engineering.

His Story:

Dr. Blundell’s hands-on research, and experience of managing research teams has established him as a leading worldwide consultant in autostereoscopic 3D display technologies, and visualization techniques - providing 3D technology perspectives to the commercial sector (particularly impact assessment of ‘disruptive’ techniques/technologies).

His primary research focuses on advanced visualization systems. This includes the design, modelling, implementation and characterization of innovative autostereoscopic techniques.

Key visualization applications include education, medicine, entertainment, CAD (particularly solid modelling for 3D printing) and the creative arts.

He is the author of 12 books – 3 of which were published by John Wiley (NY). He has published numerous research papers, articles and White Papers.

About 3D Volumetric Displays (2011) Focuses on the depiction of volumetric data - intended to provide a focused introduction to this area of research.

3D Displays and Spatial Interaction: Exploring the Science, Art, Evolution and Use of 3D Technologies (2010) Discusses image depiction, 3D techniques, and various interaction modalities within the context of an interdisciplinary framework.

He was recently appointed Series Editor for a new prestigious line of research textbooks (‘Display Science and Technology.’) by Nature publisher, Springer-Verlag.
